The art of mixology will be on display next February at a new fundraiser for the High Museum of Art.
Introducing Highball, the museum’s first craft cocktail competition. On February 18, 2017, twelve of Atlanta’s top mixologists will shake, stir and serve an original cocktail, with guests getting to sample each and vote on their favorite. There will also be light bites from Sterling Spoon catering and music from DJ Teknology.

At the event there will be a “People’s Choice” winner, decided by the guests, and a “Critic’s Choice” decided by a local expert based on appearance, taste, complexity, balance and originality. In addition to bragging rights, the winning mixologist will receive a cash prize.
Single tickets to Highball are $100 for museum members and $125 for not-yet members. Benefactor packages start at $500. All proceeds will benefit the High Museum of Art. The event is 21 and up.

Atlanta’s most fashionable gathered at Phipps Plaza Monday night for Jeffrey Fashion Cares. Founded by fashion guru Jeffrey Kalinsky, the 24th annual event is one of the largest combined AIDS and breast cancer benefits in the country. One hundred percent of net proceeds benefit the Atlanta AIDS Fund and Susan G. Komen of Greater Atlanta.
The fete kicked off with a cocktail hour. While perusing the silent auction items guests sipped on drinks including a Tropical Tiki Mojito, Spicy Margarita and a Cucumber Pink Mule, made with Svedka Cucumber Lime Vodka, LiDestri Pink Limoncello, and Ginger Beer Syrup and Baltimore Bitters from local favorite 18.21 Bitters.
Once guests took their seats along the runway in the transformed Monarch Court, event chairs Lila Hertz, Jeffrey McQuithy and Louise Sams gave a brief introduction. A live auction offered guests the chance to bid on fabulous trips, experiences and jewelry.
Then it was on to the main event. Models showed off the latest looks from Celine, Balenciaga, Chloe, Givenchy, Gucci and beyond.
Major fashion envy ensued. My closet simply won’t be complete without the fab purple pants from Dries Van Noten and gorgeous geometric print dress from Haider Ackerman.
Last year’s sold-out Jeffrey Fashion Cares raised $700,000 for the Atlanta AIDS Fund and Susan G. Komen of Greater Atlanta.

Come for the charcuterie, stay for the new innovative and delicious meat, pasta and yes, even vegetarian dishes. The Cockentrice, the hip restaurant in Krog Street Market owned by the husband-and-wife team of Executive Chef Kevin and Megan Ouzts, has debuted a new dinner menu. I recently got to indulge in a sneak peek.
Of course you have to start with charcuterie. You’ll be craving it after walking past the display at The Spotted Trotter on your way into the restaurant. The Ouzts launched The Spotted Trotter in 2010, and their meats can be found at farmers markets around Atlanta in addition to their two brick and mortar locations.
Pair your charcuterie with one of The Cockentrice’s new cocktails. New Beverage Director Cole Younger Just brings his experience at The Last Word, King + Duke and Horseradish Grill and offers his take on classic cocktails. I was a fan of the Milk and Honey, a twist on a Bee’s Knees, made with milk washed gin, raw honey, lemon and lavender.
The new dinner menu is organized by taste preference. From vegetables to flatbreads, fish and shellfish to beef, pork and pasta, there’s a dish (more likely several) to match your mood.
Several of the dishes can be made vegetarian, and many are gluten free. Dishes range from $8 to $38.
There’s even the namesake Cockentrice on the menu. Chef Ouzts’ take on the unique medieval dish is a roasted hen stuffed with lamb and served with cornbread, roasted tomato, asparagus, and game jus. If that’s not your style there’s always the massive 34 oz. char-grilled pork porterhouse.
What hasn’t changed is Chef Ouzts’ commitment to supporting local farmers and purveyors.
“As Krog Street Market and Inman Park continue to take shape and grow, we want to make sure we’re providing a distinctly, authentic Atlanta experience that reflects the friendliness and needs of the community and stays true to our philosophy to provide exquisite balance in flavor, price and sustainability,” said Chef Ouzts.
The Cockentrice is located at Krog Street Market. It is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
It’s the most famous sauce you’ve never heard of.

We got to try the hot sauce at Braai on the BeltLine, a South African barbecue-themed pop-up party on the Atlanta BeltLine. Nando’s teamed up with Justin Anthony, the South African restaurateur behind Cape Dutch, 10 Degrees South, Yebo Beach Haus and Biltong Bar to serve the PERi-PERi sauce along with Nando’s famous PERi-PERi chicken, which was marinated for 24 hours and flame grilled.
One taste of Nando’s PERi-PERi and you’ll realize it’s more than a hot sauce. It is hot – the medium, my favorite, has much more heat than most medium hot sauces.
The flavor is what makes Nando’s PERi-PERi unique. It gets this flavor from African Bird’s Eye Chili, grown in southern Africa. The chili is handpicked, then dried and crushed. Swahili for “pepper pepper,” the PERi-PERi is enhanced with sun-ripened lemons and a dash of garlic. It does not contain artificial preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavors or added MSG. It is also gluten-free, kosher and suitable for vegetarians.

More than 100 wineries and winemakers will descend on Atlanta March 30th through April 2nd for four days of tastings, seminars and dinners with the city’s favorite chefs, culminating in the Wine Auction on Saturday afternoon.
This year marks the 24th anniversary of the event benefiting the art museum. New in 2016, the Friday Fête, Vintners’ Reception and Live Auction will be held at Turner Field.

Here’s your chance to sip with a shark!
Kevin O’Leary, a.k.a Mr Wonderful from ABC’s Shark Tank, will be showcasing his own wines at a special tasting at STK Atlanta.
The no-nonsense investor is the founder and Chief Sommelier of the award-winning O’Leary Fine Wines. He’ll be sharing tastes and tales in STK’s Bistro on Tuesday, March 8 from 6 to 8 pm.
Guests will have the chance to meet and take pictures with O’Leary, while enjoying hors d’oeuvres from STK Executive Chef Mark Alba.

As if you needed an excuse to enjoy one of Tin Lizzy’s delicious margaritas, the restaurants are adding a little extra sunshine to their signature drink.
Tin Lizzy’s Cantina has partnered with Sunshine On A Ranney Day, a 501(c)(3) a non-profit based in Atlanta that creates dream room and home make-overs for children with long-term illnesses. All ten locations of Tin Lizzy’s are giving 10% of proceeds from their signature “Sunshine Margarita” to the charity.
The Sunshine Margarita is a blend of El Jimador Blanco Tequila, Agavero Orange Liqueur and sour mix. It is available for $6.95 per glass and $26.95 per pitcher through December 2015.
