Great Miller Lite Chili and BBQ Cook-Off Returns in October

It’s that time of year again — time to get excited for the Great Miller Lite Chili and BBQ Cook-Off, returning for its 35th year!

MIller Lite Chili Cook-OffThe gates open at 10am on Saturday, October 4th at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. There’s fun for the entire family, with more chili, barbecue, Brunswick stew and cornbread than possible to taste in one day, plus live music, games and more.

One hundred percent of proceeds benefit Camp Twin Lakes, a network of children’s camps that provide life-changing experiences to thousands of Georgia children with serious illnesses, disabilities and challenges.

Miller Lite Chili Cook-OffAfter introducing an amateur barbecue competition 2013, the competition is now sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, which will be offering  more than $10,000 in prize money to amateur and professional pit masters.

This year’s music lineup promises to be the best one yet, with performances by Sugarland founding member Kristen Bush and Steele Magnolia’s Joshua Scott Jones.  Jimmy Buffet fans will enjoy tribute band A1A, and Convoy will play outlaw country favorites.

Entrance is $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Tickets can only be purchased on site on the day of the event, and will not sell out.

Around 15,000 people attend the cook-off each year.

What’s New for the Annual Miller Lite Chili Cook-Off

The Great Miller Lite Chili Cook-Off returns this October for its 34th year and with it, some changes.

The biggest change: the location. Previously held at Stone Mountain, the new venue for the cook-off is the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. Located 28 miles east of Atlanta, this location will include onsite permanent restroom facilities, convenient parking and easier access to the event.

chili cook-offDon’t worry, you’ll be sure to eat your weight and then some in chili. In addition to more than 300 teams competing for the top spots, there will be cold beer, a mullet flop, a jalapeño eating contest, live music, games for all ages and more.

But that’s not all. Also new this year is chilithe addition of a barbecue cook-off, where amateur pit masters will have the opportunity to compete for the best barbecue chicken and ribs.

As in years past, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Camp Twin Lakes, a network of children’s camps that provide life-changing experiences to thousands of Georgia children with serious illnesses, disabilities and challenges. Over the past seven years the cook-off has raised approximately $500,000 for Camp Twin Lakes.

Tickets to the event are $10 for adults and can only be purchased at the event (tickets will not sell out). Children 12 and under are free. The gates open at 10am and there is no re-entry. Parking costs $5. Approximately 15,000 people attend each year.

The Great Miller Lite Chili Cook-Off Returns for 33rd Year

Bring your appetite to one of fall’s hottest festivals! The 33rd annual Great Miller Lite Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, September 29th at Stone Mountain.

The cook-off features more than 300 teams from across the country cooking up their best recipe (and serving it to attendees) for a chance to be crowned top chili. The winner takes home $5,000 and a trophy, with prizes also awarded for best Brunswick stew, cornbread and showmanship.

In addition to all the chili there will be live performances from some of the nation’s best tribute bands including Hollywood Nights, Departure, The Mighty Dan Halen and Hysteria, plus games like the popular annual Mullet Flop.

Tickets to the chili festival can be purchased at the event for $10 per person. Children 12 and under are free. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Camp Twin Lakes, a network of camps that provide life-changing programs to Georgia’s kids with serious illnesses, disabilities and other challenges.

Snapshots from the Great Chili Cook-Off

Saturday’s 31st annual Great Miller Light Chili Cook-Off at Stone Mountain was a celebration of all things spicy and savory as hundreds of teams cooked up their best chili, Brunswick stew or cornbread.

Amateur chefs served up samples of their recipes along a tasting trail that wandered through the trees.  From sweet to spicy, beef to alligator, there was a chili (or several) for everyone.

Around 300 teams competed for top prize in each of the three food categories.

First Place for Chili: Howard Crew Chili & Stew, Don & Jen Howard

First Place for Brunswick Stew: Dos Gringos, Bob Sims

First Place for Cornbread: Hammerhead Chili, Amy Phillips
