Oysters for $1 each and a glass of champagne for $5 starting at 5pm on Friday, March 31st at STK Atlanta.

You really don’t need to know much more than that. Fab food and drinks at a great price at one of Midtown’s coolest spots kind of speaks for itself.

oysters at STKBut here are the full details: STK Atlanta is hosting a “Shuck Yeah! Oyster and Champagne Party” in its bistro and lounge in honor of National Oyster on the Half Shell Day. It’s from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the 31st.

Fresh, chef handpicked East Coast and West Coast oysters will be $1 apiece, and the price of champagne changes based on the hour. At 5 p.m. a glass of bubbly is $5, starting at 6 p.m. it’s $6, and then it’s $7 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. A live DJ completes the party, making STK the perfect place to kick off the weekend.

Stay for dinner and add some turf to your surf, with one of STK’s mouthwatering steaks. I recommend the 28 oz Dry-Aged Porterhouse.

Toast to the Emmy Awards with Ferrari Brut

Forget what the stars will be wearing at the 68th annual Emmy Awards, it’s all about what the stars will be drinking!

And they’ll be drinking one of my favorites: Ferrari Brut.

The sparkling wine from the Trentodoc appellation in northern Italy is the Official Sparkling Wine of the Emmys.

Ferrari Emmy AwardFerrari Brut is your go-to sparkling wine when you want to try something beyond France. It gets its bubbles via the traditional method just like Champagne, and is made from Chardonnay (one of the three grapes allowed in Champagne).

But you don’t need to compare it to Champagne. Ferrari Brut — and the other sparkling wines produced by the Trentino winery — stands out on its own. It is always winning awards, and was just named the “World Champion Blanc de Blancs” at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships.

Ferrari was founded in 1902 by Giulio Ferrari (no relation to the car company, which wasn’t founded until much later). Giulio did not have children, so he entrusted the winery to Bruno Lunelli in 1952. The Lunelli family still owns and operates Ferrari today.

AG Pick: Valdo Oro Puro Prosecco

Ring in 2016 with a Prosecco that has the finesse of a fine French sparkling wine with a budget friendly price tag.

The Oro Puro Prosecco Superior DOCG Brut is made by Valdo, an Italian winery that was started in 1926 and purchased by the Bolla family in the 1940s. The estate and vineyards are located in Valdobbiadene, in northeastern Italy. The vines grow on hills that range in altitude from 600 to 1200 feet above sea level.

Valdo ProseccoThe Oro Puro Prosecco is a dry sparkling wine made entirely from Glera grapes. The grapes were harvested by hand, and the first fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine gets its bubbles from the Charmat method, where the second fermentation takes place in tanks rather than in the bottle.

Pale yellow in color, the Oro Puro Prosecco has citrus and floral aromas. Dry flavors of white grapefruit, pear and golden apple are enhanced by a creamy mouth-filling texture and lively bubbles.

When you arrive for a visit at Clos Triguedina, one of the first things you will likely say is “I would like to taste something.” It is a sentiment that has been expressed there countless times over many centuries.

Cahors and Clos Triguedina are located along the Pilgrimage Route of Santiago de Compostela. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims would find a welcoming place for food and rest at the estate in Vire-sur-Lot. In the Occitan language they would say, “I am longing to dine” – “me trigo de dina.”

Spotlight on Alsace

Sparkling, dry or sweet, there’s a wine from Alsace to match your taste.

Alsace is located in the northeast of France near the border with Germany. To find it on a map, look for Paris, then move your finger east, through Champagne. Like Champagne, Alsace produces sparkling wine using the traditional method, called Crémant d’Alsace. And like Germany, you’ll find Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are also grown, as is a small amount of Pinot Noir.

The wines from Alsace are ideal for the transition from summer to fall flavors. Try one of these wines:

Lucien Albrecht Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé

Lucien Albrecht Cremant RoseIf you’re new to sparkling wine from Alsace, the Crémant from Lucien Albrecht (both the rosé and white) are an excellent place to begin your discovery. The AG has been a longtime fan — we first wrote about the Brut Reserve in 2008. The rosé is 100% Pinot Noir that was whole cluster hand picked, then gently pressed in a pneumatic press.

Coral-pink in color, the Crémant has small, energetic bubbles. Crisp flavors of wild strawberry, red cherry and white raspberry culminate in a soft finish that has a hint of cream.

Joseph Cattin Crémant d’Alsace Brut

Joseph Cattin Cremant BrutNot as dry and more fruity than the Lucien Albrecht, the Joseph Cattin evokes the freshness of biting into an apricot picked at the peak of ripeness. This sparkling wine is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. The grapes were hand picked, then slow crushed and cold fermented to preserve their character.

Effervescent with aromas of stone fruit and freshly baked bread, the Crémant has flavors of apricot, white peach and pluot, with lingering sweetness on the finish.

Dopff & Irion Cuvée René Dopff Riesling 2012

Dopff & Irion RieslingThe name of this wine pays tribute to the man who took over the domaine in 1945 and implemented a new, terroir driven approach to winemaking in Alsace. This wine is made entirely from Riesling from Les Murailles, a single vineyard located on a hillside near the village of Riquewihr.

Pale yellow in color and very aromatic, the wine starts sweet but is immediately energized by bright acidity. Honeysuckle, nectarine and green apple come together with a hint of flinty minerality for a crisp finish.

Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Les Princes Abbés 2009

Schlumberger RieslingThe history of Domaines Schlumberger dates from the early 1800s, though winemaking in Guebwiller goes back much earlier. During the 12th century it became one of the more important towns in Alsace because of its winemaking, thanks to the Princes Abbots (Princes Abbés) who were the first to sell the wine. Approximately half of the Riesling grapes for this wine come from Grand Cru vineyards.

With a light yellow color, the wine opens with floral aromas and a touch of petrol. Orange blossom and wildflower honey flavors give way to crisper clementine, white peach, green apple and subtle shale notes. Medium acidity adds structure and a supple mouthfeel. The finish is clean and fresh.

AG Pick: Colliano Peneča Rebula Brut

One taste of the Colliano Peneča Rebula Brut 2012 and you’ll want to enjoy it any night of the week. And with a wallet-friendly price tag, you can.

Colliano Peneca RebulaNewly available in the United States, this sparkling wine comes from Goriška Brda in Slovenia, a hilly region that is just over the border from Italy. It is 100% Ribolla Gialla (Rebula in the Slovene language), a white wine grape that is most commonly grown in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in northeast Italy.

Peneča, pronounced peh-neh-cha, means “sparkling.” This wine was made using the Charmat method, just like Prosecco. The secondary fermentation that forms the bubbles takes place in tanks, rather than in the bottle as with the traditional method. The grapes were harvested by hand, and the wine spent six months aging on the lees.

While Prosecco is typically sweet, the Peneča Rebula Brut is dry. Rounded flavors of Meyer lemon, green apple and orange peel are balanced by crisp acidity. It’s medium bodied and lively with a creamy mouthfeel, and ready to drink now.

A bottle of the Peneča Rebula Brut costs approximately $17 to $19. Enjoy it as an aperitif or with shellfish, fresh cheeses and salads.

12.5% alcohol by volume

New Look for Anna de Codorníu

Looking to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or just want to add a bit of festivity to any night of the week? Try a bottle of the Anna de Codorníu Brut or Brut Rosé. The Spanish sparkling wines have a new look for 2014 but still have the same great taste and value.

Anna de CodorniuThis Cava comes from the Penedès region in northeast Spain. Most of the grapes come from estate vineyards in Lleida, west of Barcelona. The sparkling wine is made using the traditional method, just like Champagne. In fact it was Josep Raventós who first mastered this technique in Spain – he is a descendant of the Codorníu heiress for whom the Cava is named. The Raventós family has owned Codorníu since the marriage of Anna to viticulturist Miquel Raventós in 1659.

The Anna de Codorníu Brut NV is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Parellada (one of the three traditional grapes in Cava, along with Macabeo and Xarel·lo). Pale straw yellow in color, the Brut has dry citrus and toast aromas, with flavors of white grapefruit, lemon and pineapple. Small, energetic bubbles give this Cava a pleasing mouthfeel.

The Anna de Codorníu Brut Rosé NV is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. To achieve the rosy pink color in the finished sparkling wine, the must and skins of the Pinot Noir grapes were left in contact for three to four hours. Subtle red berry aromas introduce flavors of raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of golden apple. Like the Brut, the Brut Rosé is lively in the mouth, and culminates in a crisp finish.

The Anna de Codorníu Brut and Brut Rosé can be enjoyed on their own as an aperitif, or with appetizers, shellfish, sashimi or lightly spiced carpaccio.

Costing just $14.99 a bottle, these are sparkling wines you can enjoy on many occasions.

The grapes for the 2012 Helfrich Pinot Blanc come from the Couronne d’Or (Golden Crown), an association of vineyards and winemakers in the middle of Alsace. Tart citrus aromas introduce flavors of lemon custard, white grapefruit and subtle orange blossom, with notes of white flowers that expand as the wine warms in the glass. Pair the Helfrich Pinot Blanc with salads, shellfish, white fish and Asian dishes.

The grapes for the Helfrich Pinot Gris Grand Cru and Gewurztraminer Grand Cru come from the Steinklotz vineyard, one of only 51 vineyards in Alsace that has the Grand Cru designation. It is located at the northern end of the Alsatian wine trail and is one of the oldest vineyards recorded in Alsace.

Helfrich Grand CruThe 2011 Helfrich Pinot Gris Grand Cru offers a great balance of sweetness and acidity. The nose and palate are dominated by stone fruit – apricot, white peach and lychee are layered with gardenia, orange blossom honey and a subtle hint of smoke. It is a touch less sweet than the Gewurztraminer. Pair the 2011 Helfrich Pinot Gris Grand Cru with baked ham, roasted chicken and seafood dishes.

Ripe fruit and delicate floral notes make the 2009 Helfrich Gewurztraminer Grand Cru a real treat. The nose is wonderfully fragrant with honeysuckle, gardenia and apricot aromas. Lush flavors of orange blossom, tangerine, wildflower honey and gentle minerality culminate in a finish with lingering candied orange and ginger. The Helfrich Gewurztraminer is excellent as a dessert wine, or can be paired with lobster, scallops, spicy Asian dishes and soft and aged cheese.
